ERP 47 Courier

Open as PDF

Courier is our mass notification system. It allows messages to be sent to multiple people and organisations at the same time using voice, text message and email. Recipients can accept or decline the request, or just acknowledge receipt.

Courier was built by Avon and Somerset Police for urgent internal staff messaging as well as for use in multi-agency responses alongside Operation Link and other specific operations.

You may find that by using Courier, you receive a quicker response from officers from neighbouring forces than our own staff at home.

What information is held on Courier?

Courier is linked into the constabulary’s Chronicle database, so it shows an up-to-date list of who is trained and operational in a variety of skill sets. For example, CMS Level 2 or Rope Access.

Courier automatically registers staff’s email addresses and phone numbers from the details held on Outlook. No force landline telephones will receive these notifications.

You need to ensure that you do not have incorrect numbers on your Outlook profile such as “0000” or “N/A”. Remove any such entries otherwise you may not get any alerts.

  • Personal contact details from Courier will not be shared and are not visible to any other department or individual and will only be used for the purposes as described above.
  • Registering personal devices is completely optional for staff and although it is encouraged, it is not mandatory.
  • If there is no personal mobile registered, the message will be sent to work mobiles and emails, so you would not receive out of hours messaging unless you are monitoring your work devices when off.
  • When going on annual leave you can access the Courier and take your personal numbers off, so you do not get disturbed and when back from leave add them back onto the system.

Updating your details on Courier

Use the self service portal to update your details:

What happens once my details have been updated?

Once you update your details on the self-service portal and you are shown on Chronicle as being in date with a skill set and a request is made for an officer for that particular skill, you will receive a notification message.

Responding to a message

The message will ask you to select an appropriate response. If you ignore the message, they are likely to continue to be sent until you respond. The easiest way to prevent getting multiple messages about the same thing is to respond at the first opportunity, even if the response is to say “no”to assisting or responding.

When messages are received there will be several responses you can select, by pressing a selection or button. The sender of the message will then be able to see your response. This system is maintained and administered by the Contingency Planning team at HQ so any issues can be directed to contingencyplanning@avonandsomerset.police.uk.
